Electrical fuse is triggered

POSSIBLE CAUSE

If a fuse triggers (melting fuse or circuit breaker), this is due to the short circuit of connected devices.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

Contact an electrician. Caution: do not carry out measures on your own.

FI protective switch is triggered

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The FI protective switch triggers when a so-called earth fault occurs, i.e. a partial current leaks to earth. FI protective switches were developed to protect humans and animals from danger in such cases.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

Contact an electrician. Caution: do not carry out measures on your own.

The pump is not working

POSSIBLE CAUSE

There are a number of reasons why the pump might not work. The most common are:

A. Short circuit (fuse triggers).
B. Earth fault (FI protective switch triggers).
C. Pump is not plugged in.
D. Pipe connection to the pump on the delivery side is unintentionally closed with ball or gate valve.
E. Pipe connection to pump on the suction side was unintentionally closed.
F. Pump is clogged with dirt.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

A. For short circuit or earth fault: contact an electrician.
B. Check the position of the valves (gate valve and ball valves) on the pipes.
C. Clean the pump.
D. Plug in the pump.

The UVC lamp does light up any more

POSSIBLE CAUSE

If the UVC lamp does not light up any more, in most cases there are three main possible reasons:
1. The UVC lamp is defective.
2. The UVC lamp is not connected.
3. There is a fault in the power supply.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

A. If the UVC lamp is defective, contact the manufacturer.
B. Connect the UVC lamp.
C. Check the power supply.

The pond is losing water

POSSIBLE CAUSE

A pond with a leak can become a nightmare. In most cases the reasons for a leak are obvious and easy to correct, but in other cases the search for the fault can take weeks or even months.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

The procedure to look for a leak:

  1. Check all visible screwable and unscrewable connections in the pipe system.
  2. Transfer the fish to a different pond and leave the pond without the filter system in operation until the water level stops going down. The leak should then be found along the respective water level.
  3. Contact a professional company in the search for leaks in the pond sealing liner (e.g. Leaktrack).
  4. Commission a waste water company to check the sealing of the piping system (e.g. with camera, pressure).
Pump generates operating noise

POSSIBLE CAUSE

If a pump suddenly generates abnormal noise, there are a number of different possibilities

  1. Motor damage.
  2. The suction pipe of the pump was restricted using a gate or ball valve and this leads to so-called cavitation.
  3. The use of frequency controllers can also lead to operating noise.
  4. The pipe connection on the suction and/or delivery side of the pump is too small for the task.
  5. There are dirt particles in the pump unit.
  6. Pump is sucking in air.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

  1. In cases of motor damage, please contact the manufacturer.
  2. Never restrict the suction side of the pump. The resulting cavitation generates operating noise and can also destroy the pump.
  3. If use of a frequency controller is responsible for the problem, a possible solution is to replace the unit with one of a different make.
  4. If the pipe connections are too small for the task, replace with larger ones. Consultation with a specialist is necessary.
  5. Clean the pump.
  6. If the pump is sucking in air and this is generating noise, the fault should be immediately corrected because this can lead to so-called gas bubble disease in fish.
Pump output is considerably reduced

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The following are some of the possible causes for a reduced pump output:

  1. Pump is clogged / full of dirt.
  2. Motor is faulty.
  3. The suction or delivery side is restricted too much by a gate or ball valve.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

For 1: Clean the pump housing.
For 2: Contact the manufacturer.
For 3. Check the position of the gate / ball valve and open as necessary.

Reduced drainage outlet performance

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Drainage outlets through which water flows with the aid of gravity can clog up with the passage of time. It is not unusual for drainage outlets to clog up quickly at short notice. This can be due to filamentous algae which is easily able to pass the drainage outlet cover.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

Regularly rinse the drainage outlets. If normal rinsing does not achieve a satisfactory result, it may be necessary to conduct more intensive cleaning using a high pressure cleaner fitted with a special pipe cleaning attachment. If this does not provide the solution, it will be necessary to contact a waste water company for further consultation.

Skimmer performance unsatisfactory

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Skimmers usually have a larger opening than drainage outlets and also convey coarse contaminants. Therefore is it also necessary from time to time (especially in connection with gravity operation) to rinse or clean skimmers. A loss in skimmer performance can also be connected to the incorrect setting of the gate or ball valve of the feed pipes (skimmer/ drainage outlets) to the filter. Skimmers lose performance in many systems when all the drainage outlets are completely open.

SOLUTION & IMMEDIATE MEASURE

Check the skimmers regularly. If normal rinsing does not achieve a satisfactory result, it may be necessary to conduct more intensive cleaning using a high pressure cleaner fitted with a special pipe cleaning attachment. If this does not provide the solution, it will be necessary to contact a waste water company for further consultation.

If the problem is due to an incorrect setting of the gate or ball valve in the feed pipe, this should be corrected. In general, the more the drainage lines are closed, the more the skimmers have to work, but be careful not to close the drainage outlets too much.
